Blackwater Vs Republican Intelligence Committee Chair

Aaron Blake just caught this and he was right to react by saying “wow”:

Three high-profile Michigan Republicans are supporting Clark Durant to run for U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow in 2012.

Former Michigan Republican chairman Saul Anuzis posted on his blog Thursday that he, ex-U.S. Sen. Spence Abraham and ex-Michigan Republican chairwoman Betsy DeVos are backing Durant.

Anuzis and Abraham are notable and possibly important. But what’s fascinating is Betsy DeVos endorsing against Hoekstra. Hoekstra is the former chair of the House Intelligence committee. In addition to being wife of Amway heir and failed 2006 GOP gubernatorial nominee Dick DeVos, she’s also a Prince. As in the Prince family. As in Blackwater founder Erik Prince, her brother.

Maybe DeVos simply thinks Durant is a better candidate. But it’s hard to not notice that she’s endorsing against a guy who probably has plenty of classified information about her brother and his mercenary business, and it’s hard to not wonder if she feels Hoekstra didn’t work hard enough to protect her brother’s business and her brother’s reputation.

Great observation. (BTW, it’s “Erik” with a K.)
