Of the 36 Republican candidates for governor in the Republican landslide year of 2010, they’re the 12 whose percentage of the vote was less than John McCain received in their state in the 2008 election. One of them lost to a former Republican senator and four lost to Democrats. Of the remaining seven, none are considered particularly impressive or popular in their state.
One of the main Republican candidate, Tim Pawlenty, never got more than 47% in a statewide election. Now we have another savior for the GOP who in his first reelection squeaked by in Texas–!–with only 39%, and in a huge landslide four years later underperformed the worst Republican presidential performance in a 2-way race since 1964.
