Mitt Romney, defending his predations while at Bain:
“In the general election I’ll be pointing out that the president took the reins at General Motors and Chrysler — closed factories, closed dealerships laid off thousands and thousands of workers — he did it to try to save the business,” Romney said Wednesday on CBS.
Mitt Romney is the guy who said “let Detroit go bankrupt.” Mitt Romney is the guy whose private equity firm bought companies, looted their assets and then drove them in to bankruptcy (and often leaving the federal government to pick up the companies’ pension obligations) so he could reap huge profits. And he’s complaining that the federal government support for the US auto industry resulted in the closings of some factories, of some dealerships, and the layoffs of some workers (most of whom, by the way, have since been rehired), when what he advocated would possibly have resulted in the entire industry shutting down?
Mitt Romney is like a guy criticizing doctors for saving a patient’s life by amputating a foot at the same time he’s rounding up healthy people and decapitating them.
